New Beginnings Brent is a full integrated community drugs and alcohol service for adults.  The service provides psychosocial and pharmacological treatment, in partnership with CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust).  The service also has an outreach team, including a dedicated sex worker project.

About the role

As a Volunteer BRIC Practitioner, you will:

  • Support the BRIC Practitioner in developing physical health and wellbeing activities.
  • Support the BRIC Practitioner and the Service User Involvement Team to promote physical wellbeing and recovery among the people who use our service.
  • Assist in the delivery of meaningful activities and initiatives that encourage participation, connection, and holistic development. This may include supporting group activities such as boxing skills, gym sessions, cooking group, and walking groups
  • Help to build engagement with community partners and service user groups.
  • Assist in gathering feedback from the people who use our service and support consultation activities to help shape future programmes.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive environment where people feel encouraged and empowered to take part.
  • In addition to the above you will participate in service meetings where relevant and support other teams when needed.

About the role

As a Volunteer Homeless Outreach Practitioner you will:

  • Support our Assessment and Engagement Team to engage people who are rough sleeping, at risk of homelessness, or living in insecure accommodation.
  • Assist staff in delivering compassionate, person-centred support on the street and in the community, helping individuals feel heard, included, and connected to services.
  • Support staff during street outreach sessions, including engaging individuals, offering a welcoming presence, and helping build trust and rapport.
  • Assist with practical support such as providing information, basic harm-reduction messages (under staff supervision), or signposting to local services.
  • Help reconnect individuals to treatment, housing, and wellbeing services.
  • Work alongside our practitioners to identify immediate needs and communicate relevant information back to the team.
  • Help staff to encourage people to access recovery activities, community resources, and mutual-aid groups.
  • Contribute to a safe and trauma-informed environment during outreach and engagement.
  • Assist with recording basic information and updates, following staff guidance and confidentiality procedures.
  • Promote dignity, respect, and inclusion for people who are rough sleeping or experiencing homelessness.

As a Volunteer Peer Advocacy and Engagement Practitioner, you will play a key role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment where people feel heard, valued, and empowered.

You will:

  • Use your lived experience of recovery, substance use, or the criminal justice system to support others on their own recovery journeys.
  • You will assist the Peer Advocacy and Engagement Practitioner and the wider Via team in delivering recovery-focused activities, promoting service user involvement, and helping people access the support they need.
  • Support the Peer Advocacy and Engagement Practitioner to provide peer-based support and advocacy.
  • Use your lived experience to inspire hope and model recovery in a safe, appropriate, and professional way.
  • Assist with engagement activities that encourage participation and feedback, helping to shape and improve services.
  • Support the delivery of harm reduction advice, guidance, and information — for example, around overdose prevention, blood-borne virus awareness, and safer use practices (under staff supervision).
  • Help connect service users with appropriate education, employment, wellbeing, and recovery opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners to promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed values.
  • Assist with peer-led or group activities that promote wellbeing, confidence, and inclusion.

Via West Berkshire is a fully integrated substance use treatment service, providing clinical and psychosocial interventions, operating from a main treatment hub in Newbury. The team actively promotes recovery and works with individuals that are directly and indirectly affected by drugs and alcohol, working with the local community to improve the health and wellbeing of West Berkshire residents.

About the role

As a Volunteer Criminal Justice Worker, you will support the Criminal Justice Team with a variety of tasks. This is a voluntary role designed to provide valuable experience within substance use and criminal justice services. Your role will include:

  • Assisting the Criminal Justice Team with a variety of tasks to support service users in the criminal justice system
  • Supporting the delivery of the EVOLVE group, which focuses on substance use and offending behaviour
  • Providing additional support for criminal justice service users under the guidance of staff
  • Assisting with duties in relation to prison referrals, Drug Rehabilitation Requirements (DRR), and Alcohol Treatment Requirements (ATR)
  • Supporting day-to-day administrative tasks such as filing, report writing, photocopying, and updating service user records

Volunteer Smoking Cessation Advisors are a vital part of promoting stop smoking support in our service and improving the health of the individuals we help.

  • Liaise with other professionals and community groups to promote the service and encourage appropriate referrals.

Via’s Hillingdon service is a support service for adults and young people who are affected by drug and alcohol problems. We have a dedicated team of substance misuse practitioners who work alongside other professionals including doctors, nurses, psychologists and therapists across three sites.

About the role

As a Volunteer Criminal Justice Worker, you will support the Team with a variety of tasks. Your role will include:

About Via in Hillingdon

Launched in 2018, Via Merton is a fully integrated substance misuse service, providing clinical and psychosocial interventions, operating from a main treatment hub in Mitcham. The team actively promotes recovery and works with individuals that are directly and indirectly affected by substance misuse, working with the local community to improve the health, wellbeing and functioning of Merton residents, irrespective of circumstance.

About the role

As a Volunteer Family and Carers Practitioner, you will support the delivery of a wide range of interventions for service users. These will include:

  • Advising and assisting service users to access wider services and support organisations.
  • Offering one-to-one psychosocial sessions and checking in with clients.
  • Facilitating Family and Carers Group, if needed
  • Completing any administrative tasks.
  • Promoting Family and Carers service throughout the borough of Merton.

In addition to the above you will be expected to participate in team meetings where relevant and to complete any necessary or desirable training.

As a Volunteer Group support, you will provide a welcome presence for people coming into the service. Your role will include:

Covering group support duties, and welcoming service users to the service. This is a psychosocial service, supporting the collection, collation and inputting of all Via service data as it relates to groups.

Managing a local database and work with a national database that records a comprehensive information data set that informs understanding of the services performance and treatment outcomes. Being non-judgemental, calm, understanding and professional during sessions.

Undertaking day-to-day administrative tasks such as filing, archiving, photo copying and updating service user records

In addition to the above you will be expected to participate in team meetings where relevant and to carry out other tasks as deemed necessary to support the needs of the service.

The Via Inroads Surrey service is focused on engaging and developing sustained contact with long-term problematic alcohol drinkers who struggle to engage with community drug and alcohol services. The service provided is flexible and adaptable, ensuring that those most in need can access support. A key component of this engagement and support service is that there are no fixed time limited interventions and/or thresholds which could impact service user engagement.

Volunteer IT Trainer (remote working)

Location: remote working
Days: 1-3 days per week

How you can help

The aim of this exciting new role is to support the people who use our services to gain the IT skills they need to engage with our services remotely and connect with their families, friends and community.

The Volunteer IT Trainer will also assist in upskilling staff, volunteers and peer mentors to ensure that our people have the digital skills they need.

Training and support will be delivered virtually to individuals and small groups of learners, equipping them with a working knowledge of Zoom, Teams, email and using the internet.

As a Volunteer IT Trainer, you will design and deliver a range of training sessions to the people who use our services and our staff and volunteers.

Your role will include:

  • Assessing the IT needs of individuals
  • Producing a range of supporting materials, including quick-reference guides and video demos
  • Delivering virtual training and support (via Teams/Zoom) in both group and 1-2-1 settings
  • Managing the IT training calendar and scheduling courses
  • Maintaining records of attendance and achievement
  • Attending and participating in team meetings, and working closely with colleagues across Via.

This role will help to promote smoking cessation support inside and outside the service, working collaboratively with the team.

The role can include:

  • Supporting the running of the smoking cessation clinic, such as booking appointments, any correspondence, and answering enquiries from clients.
  • Liaising with professionals and community groups to promote the service and encourage them to refer people for support.
  • Helping to maintain appropriate records so we can track and meet key goals.
