Arun has been a Consultant in Addictions Psychiatry for over 17 years in both the NHS and the third sector.
He trained in Psychiatry at Oxford and Cambridge before becoming Clinical Director of the NHS addiction services across Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.
He joined Via as Medical Director in January 2015.
A keen interest in management led to an MBA at Henley Business School and membership of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
Arun has extensive experience of setting up and running community and inpatient drug and alcohol treatment services, prison substance misuse services and dual diagnosis services.
His research interests include pain management, online shopping addiction and chronic arousal states such as anxiety and their impact on addictions treatment as well as the potential of psychedelics to transform addictions and mental healthcare.
Arun is also a specialist inspector for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and supports the London Drug Commission set up by the London Mayor's office to review cannabis regulations.
Adebiyi Ashaye
Director of Nursing
RN, MCPara, FCMI CMgr
Ade is a registered Nurse and Paramedic having qualified in the West Midlands in 2008. Having joined Via in September 2024 as Director of Nursing, he brings a wealth of clinical, operational, and leadership experience gained across acute, primary, urgent, and community care settings.
Ade has built a diverse patient-centred career grounded in compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for disadvantaged and marginalised communities. With the move to the third sector and Via- this now includes people affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies.
Ade’s clinical experience is complemented by a Level 7 (Distinction) Diploma in Executive Leadership Development, completed through Corndel and Imperial College Business School, thus strengthening his strategic capability, organisational insight, and leadership influence. As forward-thinking people-centred leader, he believes strongly in leading from within, nurturing talent, and creating environments where individuals and teams can thrive.
He is passionate about quality improvement, workforce development, and upholding the highest standards of nursing practice and has previously been a registrant panel member for the NMC.
His work with Via underpins embedding excellence throughout practice and sees a commitment to fostering a culture where staff are empowered, feel supported, and are inspired to ensuring the organisation continues to be an employer of choice.
Emma Griss
Director of Pharmacy
Emma trained as a Pharmacist at Liverpool John Moores University and qualified in 2005 going on to qualify as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber in 2011.
She has extensive experience of delivering pharmacy and clinical services across a range of health settings including community pharmacy, prison services, NHS and third sector treatment providers.
Shortly after qualifying, Emma worked as a pharmacist in the prison setting where she quickly developed a passion for working with vulnerable people including those needing support with their drug and alcohol use. She has over 18 years’ experience working in drug and alcohol services with the last 12 years being in the third sector. She joined Via as Director of Pharmacy in 2024.
During her time in the third sector, she has worked in a number of different roles both in community drug and alcohol services as a Prescriber and central support medicines management and senior clinical teams. Emma has developed an intricate level of knowledge of medicines legislation, best practice guidance and relevant national standards and the ability to apply these to our service to support delivery of high-quality excellent care.
Emma has a strong valued based approach, being committed to and passionate about working in collaboration to continuously improve our services, so people accessing support receive the best possible care they need.
Jane Simons
Clinical Director (Delivery)
MSc, BA Hons, BSC.
Jane is a Registered Mental Health Nurse and Independent Prescriber with over 40 years’ experience in a variety of health care settings and two decades of working in the treatment of substance use across both NHS and third sector organisations.
Jane has worked in community, prison, primary and secondary care services holding senior roles both in the UK and Middle East.
Jane was awarded a Florence Nightingale Foundation Scholarship in 2018 and subsequently completed Leadership Course at Harvard Business School Executive Education, Boston, USA and Top Managers Programme with The Kings Fund, using The Tavistock Approach with a focus on human and relational aspects of leadership, in 2019.
A Queens Nurse she champions clinical excellence, patient safety and a culture of continuous improvement and with the words of an early mentor in mind ‘treat every person as though they were one of your family’.
Jane joined Via in 2023 as Clinical Director for Residential and Clinical Lead and is currently Clinical Director (Delivery).
Dr Laurie Higbed
Head of Psychology (Residential Services)

Laurie is a Clinical Psychologist and Head of Psychology for Residential Services at Via. She joined Via in 2024, having previously led the provision of psychological therapies within a community service for 10 years.
Laurie leads the development and delivery of psycho-social interventions across Via’s detox and rehabilitation services and is passionate about the implementation of trauma-informed care across residential and community treatment settings, helping to ensure our services are compassionate, evidence-based, and psychologically informed.
With a strong commitment to innovation in mental health care, Laurie is actively involved in research, with a particular interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies and their application in treating addiction and complex mental health difficulties.
Laurie regularly contributes to training, supervision, and policy development within the organisation.
Mak Chohan
Clinical Director (Governance and Professions Lead)
MBA (Dunelm), MPharm (Hons), Psychiatric Pharmacy PgDip, PIP PG Cert, MRPharmS
Makhan is the Clinical Director for Governance and Professions Lead at Via.
He is responsible for clinical governance, professional standards, and the development of safe, high-quality substance use services across nursing, psychology, and allied health disciplines.
Makhan has extensive experience in healthcare, having worked across mental health and acute care settings, contributing to multidisciplinary teams and ensuring that patient care is safe, effective, and person-centred. He has a strong focus on clinical governance, guiding the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and quality assurance frameworks that support consistent, high-standard practice across services.
He has a keen interest in ethical and transformational leadership, bridging strategic decision-making with practical improvements in service delivery. Makhan has led numerous service reviews to enhance performance, foster a shared purpose, and create supportive workplace cultures.
A recognised expert in using data to inform practice and service improvement, Makhan advises on benchmarking, performance metrics, and outcome measurement to drive safe, effective, and evidence-based care across Via’s services.
Matt Liveras
Medical Lead
Matt is a consultant psychiatrist and group analytic psychotherapist with many years of experience in senior medical roles primarily within the NHS.
He joined Via in 2024 as a Medical Lead and is currently the regional medical lead for community Via services in the London Boroughs of Greenwich, Kingston, and Merton.
His most recent role in the NHS was as the medical lead to a specialist psychotherapy service offering treatments for people struggling with complex-trauma related problems.
He also has several years’ previous experience in the NHS as the consultant psychiatrist to inpatient wards and community services for people experiencing psychosis.
He is a strong advocate for peer-led and group-based interventions and believes that the resources to improve many of our problems are to be found in our relationships with others.
Dr Michelle O’Sullivan
Head of Psychology (Community Services)
Michelle is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, specialising in trauma and addiction. Much of her work has focused the road to recovery following occupational trauma in the military and the rail industry.
Along with using CBT and EMDR in her practice, she is interested in public mental health interventions that can support whole communities.
In addition to her work Via, she is an Honorary Lecturer on the University of Birmingham’s clinical psychology doctorate programme, the Deputy Chair of the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Faculty of Addiction and sits on the BPS Committee for Prevention and Public Health.
Her research has been published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress, the Journal of Correctional Healthcare, the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology, Occupational Health [at Work], and Aggression and Violent Behaviour.
Viv Gosnell
Medical Lead
Viv has been a Specialist Addiction Psychiatrist for the last 20 years, both in the NHS and third sector.
She joined Via in 2018 from her role as Clinical Lead for the Barnet Recovery Centre (CNWL) and then moved to become the Clinical Lead for Harrow and Regional Lead for London North.
Prior to this she had been the Clinical Lead for Lifeline South Directorate, Lifeline Oxfordshire and the Medical Lead for the Compass Clinical Working Group, leading on clinical governance, patient safety and clinical policy development.
As well as working across various London community drug and alcohol services, Viv also has experience working for residential treatment services, Passmore House and City Roads.
Viv started her medical career in Cape Town in private general practice before moving to the UK as a Resident Medical Officer for BUPA.
After this she moved into general adult psychiatry, working predominantly in Barnet as a staff grade for the Crisis Intervention Service and in forensics as part of the Mentally Disordered Offenders team. An interest in management and business led her to complete her MBA at INSEAD (France) followed by a few years in property management/development both in France and South Africa as well as in medical aesthetics.
The theme of transformation led her back into psychiatry, this time into addictions, where she found her niche. Her particular area of interest is the significant and complex link between neurodiversity and addiction.

CEO
Anna has dedicated her career to working with complex social issues, championing inclusive services that make a positive difference.
Having worked in the voluntary sector for over 17 years, Anna has developed considerable experience in leading teams to adapt, develop and innovate to respond to evolving and changing need and content.
Prior to Via, Anna worked as an executive director for BBC Children in Need. She developed and implemented the charity's first impact strategy before overseeing a significant change programme across the organisation's grant making alongside the charity's funding response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anna also has extensive experience in the substance misuse field, having worked at Addaction (now known as We are With You) for 12 years. Starting as a frontline practitioner and manager, her last three years at Addaction were as the executive director of operations.

Abi Cooper
Executive Director of Quality, Impact & Performance
Abi is committed to delivering innovative services that have a positive impact.
She has extensive experience of delivering improvements in quality assurance, performance management, strategy and governance in a variety of roles.
She has worked in the non-profit sector for over 30 years; the last 15 years in leadership roles.
Abi trained as a mental health social worker and has an MSc in Social Policy and Social Work Studies.
Her skills and knowledge developed from directly delivering services in a number of health and social care settings. She has also worked in local government and higher education.
Abi currently oversees the work of the Quality Team, the Data and Performance Team and the Innovation and Research Unit (IRU) at Via.
Brian McGinn
Chief Operating Officer
Brian has a wealth of experience of over 25 years in charitable, commercial and public sectors including financial management, managing senior and directorial teams, strategy development, governance, human resources, IT and facilities management having qualified with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2001.
Brian joined Via in August 2020 as Director of Finance leading to the position of Chief Operating Officer 12 months later. Prior to Via, Brian most recently worked as Director of Finance and Resources in the charitable and telecommunications sectors. Brian also worked as Chief Finance Officer for one of Northern Ireland’s leading charitable social enterprises for over 20 years, delivering budgetary growth from £1 million to £50 million plus and 800 staff which included mergers and acquisitions, financial planning and analysis, major capital expenditure, tender successes and grant management.
Brian has continually worked with Boards and external stakeholders in complex consolidated multi-national companies in both the charitable and commercial sector and was a founding Trustee of Shopmobility Belfast, where he remained as treasurer for 11 years.
Craig Middleton
Executive Director of Services
Craig is Executive Director of Services for Via, alongside Tom Sackville, and responsible for leading on our high quality service delivery.
Starting as a frontline practitioner in 2006, Craig has over 15 years’ experience in the field working across different settings and leading on a range of diverse services.
He joined Via in 2009 as a Project Coordinator and has gone on to be a Service Manager and Area Director for us.
Craig is our executive sponsor for the development of our core service delivery interventions for the organisation and is passionate about delivering services that meet the individual needs of the people who use our services.
Craig values working in collaboration with the people who use our services, their families, our staff and funders to support effective and responsive, coproduced services that make a real difference.
Graham Howard
Executive Director of Development
Graham has been working in substance misuse business development for over 13 years.
Within this time, he has secured multiple high-value substance misuse contracts and helped to diversify Via’s provision.
Prior to this, he worked in the welfare-to-work sector which involved directly supporting the long-term unemployed into sustainable work.
Graham is responsible for driving our strategic growth agenda.
Tom Sackville
Executive Director of Services
Tom has over 25 years' experience working in health and social care.
He initially qualified as a probation officer, completing a Diploma in Social Work, before working for Turning Point with probation clients whose offending was linked to substance misuse. As part of this role, he developed work with local youth justice services, triggering an interest in work with young people's services.
Following this, he was responsible for the development of a bail supervision and support and intensive supervision and surveillance service working across three London youth offending services, providing holistic intensive alternative to custody programmes for young people.
Tom then worked for Catch22 for 14 years as an operations director, with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of substance misuse and emotional health, leaving care, gangs, youth crime prevention and housing services. This involved national programmes as well as local delivery, and taking an organisational lead on gangs and youth justice. It also included responsibility for policy and research work with a number of studies on youth violence being published.
As Executive Director for Services, working alongside Craig Middleton, Tom is responsible for overseeing the delivery of services across the organisation, including having a focus on young people’s services, employability and recovery in action.
Operations Leadership Team
CloseVanessa Duke
Area Director
Vanessa began her career as a prison officer at HMP Peterborough.
Her first role in substance misuse was at HMP Peterborough as a CARATS worker and she moved into the community when she first joined Via as a practitioner in Bedfordshire.
Since then Vanessa has worked in a range of substance misuse services including DIP/IOM services, prison treatment and recovery services, integrated drug and alcohol services, and in a residential detox facility.
Vanessa also has experience as a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered manager and has supported and overseen a number of successful CQC inspections.
Vanessa has significant experience of quality and governance and worked at Via as a quality manager and most recently as a senior manager responsible for organisational quality and continuous improvement at SMART CJS.
Vanessa has also been a volunteer for over five years at a Rape Crisis Centre local to her home and in 2019 was elected as a joint Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. She’s a champion for women’s equality and is also passionate about driving forward LGBTQ+ inclusion within services.
As an Area Director at Via, Vanessa manages a portfolio of services across London and the home counties, focusing on leading teams to deliver high-quality care.
Paul Mubu
Area Director
Paul has a passion for supporting and creating conditions in which people can reach their potential and lead meaningful lives.
He has 23 years’ experience working in the social care sector across forensic mental health, criminal justice and substance misuse.
Starting off on the frontline as a support worker, Paul worked with mentally disordered offenders and then as a drug interventions worker leading on a local prolific and other priority offender scheme.
Over the last 15 years, Paul has worked in different managerial roles encompassing, service delivery, performance management, quality improvement and governance lead roles.
He has experience and keen interest in coaching and development, use of digital technologies, service design, pathway development and service user journey refinement.
Paul also has qualifications in marketing management, digital technologies and leadership and management in health and social care.
Elizabeth Campbell
Area Director
Liz joined Via in February 2018 and has over 25 years' experience working in the drug and alcohol field.
Liz originally started working as a frontline practitioner in a residential detox unit. More recently she has managed a variety of community drug and alcohol services in London.
Liz has also worked in the homelessness field and managed outreach services and hostel provision. She has extensive experience of setting up new services and building good relationships with NHS partners.
Liz completed a six-year part-time degree in Labour and Trade Union Studies in 2014 and is also an ACAS qualified workplace mediator and Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered manager.
At Via, Liz manages a portfolio of services across London, including those where we work in partnership with NHS trusts.
Liz also manages Via’s organisational project that is working towards the micro elimination of hepatitis C within our services.
David Targett
Area Director
Dave's first role in health and social care was as a volunteer in a needle exchange in 2003.
Since then, Dave has worked across housing/homelessness, outreach, rehabilitation, substance misuse, offending, young people, peer provision and complex needs.
His work in these areas has been within a range of roles, including: voluntary, service user-facing, teaching, advisory, mentoring, managerial, director and trustee positions.
Dave has a strong track record of building strategic and partnership focused delivery of safe, effective, caring and impactful services for the people that need them the most, making sure they are accessible to all.
Leading our activities in the North-West of England, Dave is responsible for translating organisational strategic intent into deliverable outcomes, that give both value for money and a positive impact for the communities Via works in.

CloseCharles Waddicor
Chair
Charles is a widely recognised leader and expert in the health and social care sector, with a particular interest and focus on mental health. He brings a strong track record of strategic leadership, effective governance, and measurable community impact.
He is currently a Non-Executive Director for North London NHS Foundation Trust which provides mental health services and has chaired the Finance and Investment Committee for 10 years. He is also Chair of CHKS Advisory Board and the Friends of the National Archives.
Working in a number of high-level roles across multiple NHS Trusts has meant Charles has overseen large-scale development projects as well as managing complex stakeholder environments with CCGs, local government and funding organisations. Charles has also worked as a special advisor to inspections at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), supporting the important work it does around quality, culture and governance.
As our Chair, he will play a pivotal role in guiding our vision and long-term strategy.
Charles says: “I am thrilled and delighted to be appointed as Chair of Via. The organisation embodies my values and provides effective support to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in society. I hope, during my tenure, to lead the Board and build on the success of recent years.”
Mike Walsh
Deputy Chair
Mike’s career was spent in two global advertising agencies, and in the most recent one, (Ogilvy & Mather) he was CEO of their Europe, Africa and Middle East region for 12 years.
He has also spent time as a member of the Worldwide Board of WWF, been a trustee of the Maritime Trust, vice chairman of the British Red Cross and spent six years as chair of the UK Disasters Emergency Committee.
More recently, since his ‘retirement’, he has been on the board of the Archant Community Media Group, been involved in several tech start-ups and done a variety of mentoring roles.
Mike says: “My interest in Via was stimulated by another trustee who has been involved in addiction, coupled with the realisation that even at a later age I can continue to help people have a better life. Of course, what finally won me over completely was spending time at our centre in Merton with a dedicated team full of an infectious enthusiasm and dedication.”
Don MacIntyre
Trustee
Don is currently the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) He is former CEO of the Personal Finance Society and boasts a highly successful career marked by his exceptional leadership and transformative contributions across various sectors.
Before assuming his role at the PFS, Don played a pivotal role as Interim CEO of the UK Cyber Security Council, a newly established self-regulating body. Under his guidance, the council successfully navigated its critical ‘start-up’ phase, evolving from a transitional team into a fully operational entity.
Prior to that, Don served as the Global Director of Business Development for one of the largest global health care NGOs.
Known for his outstanding communication skills, collaborative spirit, and strategic acumen, Don has consistently demonstrated his ability to build successful teams and drive positive change. His career, characterised by excellence in economic development, international development, and membership and association industries, stands as a testament to his leadership prowess and dedication to driving meaningful transformation.
James Copeland
Trustee
James brings over a decade of experience in fostering, policy, and service innovation to his role as a trustee of Via.
Currently an Assistant Director at The Fostering Network, James leads programmes focused on recruitment, retention, and sector improvement. He has previously worked across charity and local government settings to champion the voices of care-experienced children and young people, strengthen support for foster carers, and influence national policy.
James says "As a former foster carer I have seen up close the impact drugs and alcohol have on children and families and the devastation that ensues. I would love to see greater rates of recovery so families can be re-united and supported to thrive.”
Jamie Giles
Trustee
Jamie is a senior leader in the addiction and mental health sector. He has led services supporting individuals in both custodial and community settings, including serving as CEO of Steps2Recovery. He is currently Director of Outpatient Services at Castle Health, overseeing the development and delivery of outpatient and continuing care services across the UK and Europe.
Jamie also serves as a Trustee at StandOut, a charity supporting people leaving prison to find employment, and is actively involved in campaigning for ethical practice in the addiction treatment sector, advocating for transparency and accountability to protect those seeking help.
Jamie says: "I’m passionate about delivering services that are not only ethical and evidence-based but also genuinely responsive to the needs of those we support. Effective delivery means ensuring that care is accessible, transparent, and truly person-centred. It also means supporting the staff who deliver that care: valuing their work, listening to their experience, and enabling them to do their jobs well. I’m proud to serve Via, whose values and practices align so closely with these principles."
Lloyd Humphreys
Trustee
Lloyd is Managing Director of Cogniss, a no-code ecosystem for creating digital health solutions without the need for developers.
He is a clinical psychologist by background with an MBA from the European School of Management and Technology, Berlin. Lloyd began his career in psychological research before working in the NHS and then going on to found and create Breaking Free Online, the world’s first digital therapeutic for addiction.
Lloyd has since helped scale multiple healthcare innovations spanning digital therapeutics, personal health records, and digital health infrastructure. He is an NHS Innovation Accelerator alumnus and advises startups, international accelerators, and global bodies including the World Health Organisation.
Lloyd says: "I'm excited to join such a progressive and forward thinking organisation, the energy and passion for helping people on their road to recovery shone through and matches my desire to drive as much impact as possible for the most people. Innovation and challenging the status quo has been at the heart of what I have done for the past few decades and so and it's great to be a part of Via, which shares this vision.”
Magda Howlett
Trustee
Magda is a chartered accountant with several years of experience working with charities and membership organisations in the education and museum sectors. She is currently the Finance and Operations Director at MyBnk, a charity which creates and delivers innovative, high-impact and high-energy financial education programmes across the UK.
Previously, she worked as Finance and Operations at the British Institute of Radiology, an international membership organisation for professionals in imaging, radiation oncology, and the underlying sciences. She was also governor for a primary school.
Magda lives in Billericay, Essex with her family. She looks forward to assisting Via to support people to transform their lives for the better.
Pedro Dalton
Trustee
Pedro is currently the Commercial Director at one of the leading private providers of short-term accommodation and support services in the public sector.
He has worked in the non-for-profit sector for a number of years, primarily in housing associations, across a range of finance roles. More recently he has focused on engaging with local authorities to explore and consider new opportunities to improve services in their communities whilst providing value-for-money in the delivery of these services.
These roles have helped develop a strong sense of social purpose where the success of a business is not simply measured in the profits generated but rather by the difference made to people’s lives.

Richard Paul
Treasurer
Richard is treasurer on the Via’s Board of Directors. He’s a chartered accountant, having been in practice for almost 30 years, and is a senior partner at Nyman Libson Paul Chartered Accountants.
Richard specialises in a number of different sectors, including owner managed businesses, property, leisure, and the film and TV industry.
Richard says: “I have a personal interest in drug addiction through a friend who had experienced these issues. The possibility to help others with similar problems is what attracted me to become a Trustee at Via.”
